Thomas Telford

This remarkable Scottish civil engineer transformed Highlands infrastructure in the early 19th century, designing and building bridges, roads, and canals. In Dingwall his legacy is the now silted Dingwall Canal and Conon Bridge, among others.

Early Coaching Days in Dingwall

Kenneth Mackenzie and John Mackenzie (unrelated) developed and competed for the coach trade as it started up in the early 19th century. Many of the town's hotels relate to this time.

Colin Bain Calder of Dingwall & Rosario

Colin Calder, a Child of the Town, left Dingwall in 1882 for Argentina. Seven years later 1889 he was elected as the first president of the recently formed "Central Argentine Railway Athletic Club" (later "Rosario Central"). It's a story that has created a Dingwall - Rosario link.
